Structural steel for Meath sheds and agricultural buildings

Meath work tends to be bigger and simpler than city work: sheds, stores, machinery bays and the steel that keeps them standing. The priorities are different too, with durability and a sensible delivery date usually mattering more than fine finishes.

Portal frames and shed steel

A farm building is normally a series of portal frames at regular centres, tied together with purlins and side rails and braced in the corners. We fabricate the columns, rafters, haunches, base plates and cleats to the engineer's design and mark each frame so it goes up in order.

Where a building is being extended rather than built new, the awkward part is matching the existing structure. Old sheds are rarely square or at the spacing anyone wrote down, so we measure on site before cutting rather than trusting a drawing of what was intended thirty years ago.

Repairs and strengthening

Plenty of Meath work is repair: a column foot that has rusted through at ground level, a rafter damaged by machinery, a doorway that needs widening for a bigger tractor. These are fabrication jobs rather than full builds, and we make the replacement sections and splice plates to suit what is actually there.

Rust at the base of columns is the most common problem we see, usually because concrete was poured tight around the steel and held water against it. The fix is to cut back to sound metal, weld in a new section and detail the base so water drains away.

Finishes that survive a farmyard

Agricultural environments are hard on steel. Slurry, silage effluent and constant damp will strip an ordinary paint system quickly. Hot dip galvanising is the sensible default for anything at low level or exposed, and it pays for itself over the life of the building.

For internal structure inside a dry store, a good primer and top coat is normally enough, and we will say so rather than selling a finish the job does not need.

Delivery across Meath

We deliver from Dublin 22 to Ashbourne, Dunboyne, Navan, Trim, Kells and the rest of the county. Farm access is usually generous, but soft ground in winter is worth flagging before the lorry arrives.

Send drawings or site measurements and we will quote with a firm delivery week.

Common questions

Yes, including columns, rafters, haunches, bracing and base plates, fabricated to an engineer's design.
Yes. We measure on site, fabricate the replacement sections and supply them ready to fit.
For anything exposed to weather, slurry or washdown it is strongly recommended. Dry internal steel can be painted.
