Mezzanine floors for Dublin warehouses and units
A mezzanine is the cheapest square metres a business can buy: the roof and walls already exist, so you are only paying for a floor. Most of the units around Ballymount, Park West and the Naas Road have the height to make one work.
How a mezzanine is put together
The structure is columns on base plates, primary beams spanning between them, secondary beams at closer centres, then decking and a floor finish. Around the edge goes handrail or a fall protection barrier, plus a stair, and often a pallet gate if goods are being lifted up.
Loading is the key decision. A storage mezzanine carrying pallets is designed to a much higher load than an office mezzanine carrying desks and people, and the difference shows in the steel sizes and the column spacing. Be honest with your engineer about what will actually go up there, including forklifts.
Fitting it into an existing unit
Existing units are never perfectly square and the slab is never perfectly flat. We measure on site before fabrication and allow for level differences in the base plates rather than discovering them on installation day.
The slab itself matters too. Mezzanine columns concentrate load into small areas, and a thin or old warehouse slab may need pad foundations cut in. That is an engineering check worth doing early, because it affects both cost and programme.
Stairs, handrails and regulations
Access stairs need the right rise and going, a handrail to both sides where required, and a landing arrangement that works with the building's escape strategy. We fabricate the stair, the stringers, the treads and the balustrade as one package so nothing is improvised on site.
Edge protection along the open side is not optional. We supply either a standard industrial handrail with knee rail and toe board, or a fuller barrier where the risk assessment calls for it.
Working around your business
Most units cannot shut down for a fit out, so we fabricate off site, deliver in a planned sequence and keep the disruptive work tight. Weekend and evening deliveries are possible where the unit is busy during the day.
