What driveway gates cost in Dublin
Gate prices vary more than almost anything else we make, because a gate is really four decisions: how wide, what infill, how it moves and how it is finished. Each one changes the number significantly.
Width and weight
A 3 metre single opening and a 4.5 metre double are different jobs, not the same job scaled. Wider leaves need heavier frames to stay square, bigger hinges and stronger piers, and at a certain point a swinging gate stops being practical and a sliding gate becomes the better answer.
Height matters too, and so does the bar spacing. A gate with bars at 100mm centres uses roughly twice the steel of one at 200mm.
Infill and design
A plain vertical bar gate is the most economical. Adding a curved or arched top, spear heads, a louvre infill or cedar cladding all add labour, and cedar in particular adds material cost and a maintenance commitment.
Full privacy gates with sheet or louvre infill also catch far more wind, which feeds back into the frame, the hinges and the automation size.
Automation
Automating a gate typically adds a substantial amount to the total. It brings motors, a control board, safety photocells, a safety edge where required, an intercom or keypad, and power out to the gate position, which often means a trench and an electrician.
If automation is a possibility later rather than now, say so at design stage. We build in the mounting provision and you avoid modifying a finished gate.
Piers, posts and installation
Existing piers are frequently not up to the job, particularly on older Dublin entrances where they were built for light timber gates. A heavy steel gate can pull a pier apart over time, so the survey checks what is there and the quote says honestly whether the piers need reinforcing or whether steel posts should be installed instead.
Ground levels matter as well, because a swinging gate needs clearance over a driveway that rises. We survey before quoting rather than pricing from a photograph.
